Interview with St. Joseph Students

Introduction:

My students live in the local community. Their lives are very different from the lives of most students in big cities. They enjoy learning and watching cartoons, and they were excited about the opportunity to be interviewed about their lives. These are their responses to the questions I asked them.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

I eat bread and drink a hot drink for breakfast. For lunch, I usually eat rice and stew. For dinner, in the evenings, I eat banku or fufu, which are both typical Ghanaian dishes.

What is your house like?:

I need to sweep my house everyday. My house is small, but long. My house has three bedrooms and a kitchen outside of the house, where we cook. The toilet is also outside. The roof is made out of metal sheets.

What chores do you have at home?:

I fetch water, sweep the floor, cook, and sell fish and tomatoes to other community members.

What jobs do your parents have?:

Our parents are farmers and work in the market.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

School starts at 7 a.m., and I go home at 2:30 p.m.
