This was done simply by shifting the focus of the public from the failing governments to an imaginary "enemy" they can't really see. Finding ways to emphasis the fact that any culture has negative and positive aspects and stop judging based on faulty information could stop ending such misunderstanding. Another cause of modern day Orientalism is the social media, international news and the types of stories told by mainstream journalist which contribute to the way people look at different cultures wether in the east or west. There was a paper about the rise of anti-Muslim prejudice in America and Europe that implied that perception of Muslims and Islam in media are likely independent from religious beliefs and instead are driven much more by political viewpoints. Such facts are not openly admitted in the media orelsewhere, thus making the process of deconstructing and then exposing the roots of Orientalism and prejudice very complicated.
In conclusion, there are diverse cultures, languages, and behaviours in the "East" and "West" which should be studied individually. Although it's impossible to study each of it separately, we can try to understand them and avoid jumping to conclusions very quickly. We've talked about "out of sight, out of mind” mentality before which means we all realize how it's widespread and difficult to fight. People must choose to challenge their assumptions about other cultures so they could develop tolerance and compassion. I know that this exchange mediated by Reach the World is a major step to fight back Orientalism and prejudice towards any culture and I'm sure it's a tough battle but we must keep remembering we're fighting for a good cause.
