As I have told you all before, city blocks are very long in Shanghai’s suburbs. Especially during the winter and the summer, I do not like walking or biking to my university, the high school where I do research, the grocery store, or even nearby restaurants. This is because during winter, it is too cold and rainy, and during summer, it is too hot and humid. So what do I do? I take the bus.
Lots of people in Shanghai like taking the bus. On the bus, I see grandparents on their way to pick up their grandchildren from school. I see people going to work in the nearby offices and factories. On the weekends, families take the bus to go picnic in a nearby park.
Taking the bus is inexpensive and convenient. To take a bus trip it only costs CNY 1.00, which is equal to USD $0.15! I also do not need to bring cash with me to pay the bus fare. I just have to tap my phone on a scanner, just like on the metro. Buses run regularly every ten to 15 minutes, so I can arrive on time to where I need to be.
