Giraffes All Around!

Introduction:

In this field note, I will be sharing about the giraffes that I have seen all over Zambia. They have been present while I have been on safaris and driving through national parks since they stay on reserves, which means they are protected from hunters who may hurt them.

What does this creature or plant look like?:

Giraffes are very tall animals with long necks and long legs. They have light brown fur covered in darker brown spots that help them blend into their environment. Their heads have small horn-like bumps called ossicones, and they have big eyes with long eyelashes.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

When I saw a giraffe, I felt amazed because of how tall and graceful it was. It moved slowly but looked very powerful at the same time. I also felt excited because seeing a giraffe in real life is something I will never forget.

Where does it live?:

Giraffes live in parts of Africa, especially in savannas and open grasslands. These areas have lots of trees, like acacia trees, which giraffes like to eat from. They need space to walk around and find food.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

Giraffes use their long necks to reach leaves high up in trees that other animals cannot reach. This helps them find food easily without much competition.
