Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of a student living in another country looks like? I certainly have, and it makes me wonder: Do the students go to school at the same time as me? Do they study the same subjects in school? What are their hobbies outside of the classroom?
Since moving to Spain, I have had the opportunity to teach English at a local school and tutor Spanish students outside of the classroom. Each day, I am discovering that although students in Spain and the United States live thousands of miles apart, they have many things in common! I have found some of the most interesting differences in their daily routines and schooling.
To learn more about what life is like for children in Spain, I interviewed Lucía, a very smart native Spanish-speaker from Ourense, Spain who is learning English. Lucía is 12 years old and is in the first year of ESO (which stands for Educación Secundaria Obligatoria in Spanish), which is similar to middle school, more specifically 7th grade, in the United States. I meet with Lucía each week to practice English, and she teaches me so much Spanish too. I have already learned so much from her, and I am so excited to learn more this year! Let’s see a glimpse into how Lucía’s daily life and interests compare to yours!
