I am constantly flipping through my copy of "Lonely Planet Central Asia," seeing if there's anything cool near me. I want to start reading a biography of Tamerlane that I brought to see if I can pick apart the national narrative presented in this country.
I played chess with some of my students at the American Corner. Chess is considered a sport in this country (a Soviet legacy), and students learn it at school. They are quite good, but I can still occasionally eke out a victory through a combination of skill and luck.
I spent the work week enjoying the cool fall weather, teaching at my university in the mornings and working at the American Corner and MakerSpace in the afternoons. I also went to Tashkent this weekend to see some of the other Fulbrighters, and we saw some of the monuments and museums there.
