Hello, my name is Gabriel, but most people just call me Gabe. I am 27 years old and originally from St. Louis, Missouri. Growing up, my favorite places in town were Forest Park, The Muny theater, and the City Museum, which is more like a giant playground than a museum!
For college, I went to Webster University in St. Louis, where I studied History and Philosophy. During college, I spent a semester studying abroad in Athens, Greece. It was my first time living in another country, and it inspired me to explore more of the world. After graduating, I moved to China to teach English. I first taught adult learners in Beijing for one year. Then I spent two years teaching at a university in Guangzhou.
After three years in China, I joined the Peace Corps as an English teacher in North Macedonia. I chose North Macedonia because I have always been interested in the history of the Balkans. I also wanted to support students with special educational needs. As someone with autism who received special education services in school, I know how important the right support can be. I wanted to help students who are facing the same challenges I did, and North Macedonia's special education program could offer me that opportunity.
Today, I teach English and work with students with special educational needs at an elementary school in the beautiful town of Kruševo. I look forward to sharing my Peace Corps journey with you!
