I grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, with my parents and younger brother. I went to a public school near my house, and I actually learned German during high school instead of French. My brother was a big football player for our school, so I spent a lot of time at his games to support him (France doesn't have American football--their "football" is what we call soccer). I also spent a lot of time at high school reading and studying, which is exactly what I'm doing in Paris now! I'm very passionate about politics and philosophy, and will be studying International Affairs at George Washington University next fall. This topic of study focuses on relationships between countries across the globe, and I'm very excited about this area of study! My time in Paris is through G.W.U., who placed me in a program to study here for a year before starting at college in D.C. I didn't expect this, but I'm so glad I decided to do it.
My family has only ever lived in the United States, and I'm the first of one of us to live in another country for such a long time. I was very nervous because of this, but everyone was very supportive of me and told me that I could do it. I've never been out of the country before this at all, so this is my first time being surrounded by another culture. Sometimes that makes every day an adventure that I enjoy, but it has also presented some challenges (like having to pay to use the bathroom, and no free refills).
