Forest Fires (Incendios Forestales)

Helping restore the land through planting native plants is a way that we can heal after such devastating fires. This is one of the reasons I love your collective class project, where you are growing a native plant species to help restore your land, or Āina, as you taught me the other day.

Don't get me wrong, not all non-native plants are bad!  Not at all! We have domesticated many plants to help us survive. Just think about all the crops we grow and where they first came from! In this especially globalized world, we have seen a lot of plants find new homes where they have never lived before. However, non-native plants can become unfriendly when they become invasive or when they compete with critical natural plants. Do you know if the plant you are growing can help mitigate, or prevent, any environmental problems (think wildfires, flooding, erosion, pollution)?

I am so glad you all are working so hard on your project, and I cannot wait to hear more details soon!
