Traveler Bio

Hello readers, and mucho gusto and kushikullami (a pleasure to meet you)! My name is Finn Maunder and I am 29 years old. Before we begin our exploration of Perú together, I’ll start with a little bit about myself. I was born in London, the capital of the United Kingdom, but moved to the countryside of West Sussex, about an hour and a half outside of London. My mum is originally from Chattanooga, TN, but my dad is English. My siblings and I were born, raised, and educated in the U.K. It was a great place to grow up, surrounded by green fields, woodlands full of wildflowers, taking long walks and bike rides along the network of trails and footpaths that surrounded the village we lived in. I was also a massive bookworm as a kid!

I still love to read and studied literature at the University of Bristol, in the West of England. My favourite author is Joseph Conrad – his best book, in my opinion, is Nostromo. It’s very long, but tells an amazing story of politics, forbidden love, and the consequences of international economic exploitation on a developing country. After I left university, I worked in China as an English teacher at a university in the city of Ningbo. Later, I worked as a volunteer for AmeriCorps to complete a variety of conservation projects in Washington State. After that, I applied to become a Peace Corps Volunteer and now work as a community health facilitator here in Perú. Peace Corps has been one of my greatest challenges, but also one of the most amazing experiences of my life.

Peace Corps Volunteers like me live and work side by side with community members around the world, collaborating on locally prioritized projects, building relationships, exchanging cultures and knowledge, and helping transform lives for generations. Learn more by clicking here
