Studying abroad at Kwansei Gakuin University in Japan has been one of the best things to happen to my life so far. Before arriving in Japan, I was excited but also nervous about coming to a completely new place by myself, with a new language and different culture. However, over time, I have become more comfortable and confident living here, and Japan started to feel like a new home that I love.

One of the biggest things I've gotten from this trip was confidence in communication. Using a new language every day was difficult (and still is), especially when speaking with native speakers, ordering food, asking for directions or having conversations in class. Even though I made mistakes, I have been slowly improving by practicing every day. Though I may not be the best at speaking Japanese, it is okay and the people appreciate that I'm even trying. This journey helped me become more independent and less afraid of trying new things, for sure.

Another important part of my journey was meeting people from many different countries and backgrounds. I made friends from Japan and from so many other countries around the world. Whether it's talking to someone from England with an accent, making jokes with each other or learning a new Korean word with a Korean friend it's all so cool!
