Since I have played piano for a long time and it's something that brings me a lot of personal joy, I also think it's important to mention how a place like the National University of Singapore provides means of playing music to students. Around campus, there are a few pianos in random places. This is something that I have not experienced in the US, or at least not at my home university. For many people, playing (or even just messing around on) an instrument can have a therapeutic effect, especially if classes, missing home or life in general are stressing you out.
After experiencing all of this, I have started to realize that music is not just about what people listen to, but also about where and when it appears. In Singapore, the quieter everyday spaces make music during celebrations feel even more meaningful. Whether it's songs playing in Little India, a campus event, a karaoke party during Tet or even discovering a piano in a random building, music has a special way of turning ordinary moments into memorable experiences.
