Traveler Bio

Hi, explorers! My name is George McKenzie Jr., and I’m a photographer and explorer based in Florida’s Northern Everglades. This incredible place is a wild, watery world filled with hidden animals, winding waterways, and exciting mysteries. I use special wildlife cameras called camera traps to document one of Florida’s most elusive animals—the endangered Florida panther—and I use those images to help protect the entire Everglades ecosystem. Will you join me on this adventure?

Throughout this virtual exchange program, I’ll take you into the field to show how I use camera traps to study animals that are rarely seen by people. You’ll learn how I place and check cameras, collect photos and videos, and work with researchers and filmmakers to better understand how animals use their habitat. I’ll also share how photography and storytelling help people around the world care about wildlife and protect important places like the Florida Wildlife Corridor.

Why is it important to protect big, connected wild spaces, and how can curiosity, technology, and creativity help? By joining me on this journey, you’ll discover how exploration is powered by asking questions, working together, and seeing the world in new ways. I hope this expedition inspires you to look more closely at nature—and to share your own stories too!
