Mayad nga aga (good morning), everyone!
Can you believe our Reach the World journey is already coming to a close? Tapos ron, done so soon!
It has been nearly ten months now since I arrived in Manila and seven since arriving in my province. I am so grateful you have all joined me for a few months of this journey. Thank you for meeting with me and your many great questions. I have learned lots from you all and I hope you had fun learning about the Philippines, too!
Life in the Philippines has been such a special experience. I have made strong relationships with my host family members and coworkers, explored beautiful ecosystems in the mountains and the ocean, studied Tagalog and Kinaray-a and sampled delicious food. I have learned from local fishermen and farmers, experienced vibrant fiestas and, of course, befriended (and squished) many different bugs along the way. As the popular tourism tagline here says, “It’s fun in the Philippines!”
Being so far from home in the U.S. can be a challenge, but the warm and welcoming culture of the Philippines has made for a great transition.
