Fairy Bread!

Introduction:

Australian cuisine isn't as well known as Mexican or Italian, but there are a lot of foods I could've written about here. Kangaroo meat, meat pies, sausage rolls and vegemite are all quintessentially Australian. Fairy bread is less well-known, so I decided to write about this sweet treat for y'all!

What food did I try?:

Fairy bread is a staple of Australian childhoods. At my friend's birthday party, the Australians found out I had never tried it. They decided to show me how to make it immediately. It is a very simple food. You only need bread, butter, and sprinkles.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I felt excited! They said it tasted like a pop-tart, but I can now say that that is not true. It honestly just tastes like buttered bread with a slight sugary aftertaste, plus some crunch from the sprinkles. Despite the simplicity, it was good!

How is the food prepared?:

First, you cut the slice of white bread into two triangle pieces (the shape is very important). Then, spread on butter, pour a bunch of sprinkles on top, spread and eat! It's that easy!

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Obviously, fairy bread isn't as connected to the environment as kangaroo steak, but it is an Australian staple. The origins of fairy bread are debated. For example, some people claim fairy bread was created in New Zealand.
