Our News

It is huge, and an incredible piece of artwork!

On Saturday, I went to crew training with Te Toki Voyaging Trust, which is a waka hourua (double-hulled canoe) organization here in Auckland and we went sailing on Haunui, one of their waka hourua who was just recently relaunched after he went through extensive drydock. It was a lovely day for a sail! After several days of rain, the sun finally came out and it was warm and beautiful on the water. That might be one of my favorite activities from this week, along with going to Polyfest and the "Te Rā Ringa Raupā: Reviving the art of the woven sail" event!

What did I read this week?:

I read a lot of articles for my classes. Two of my favorites were "Colonization as myth-making: A case study in Aotearoa," by Moana Jackson, and "Wetland: Draining mana whenua," by Alice Te Punga Somerville. I also started reading Babel by R.F. Kuang, which my friend recommended to me. I also have some Webtoons that I like to read. What kind of books do you like to read?

What games or sports did I play this week?:

I played a board game called "Next Station: Tokyo," where you make your own train routes by connecting different symbols. It was a close game, but I lost!

I also went on a long bike ride on Saturday. I just got a new bike and wanted to test out if it would be big enough for me, so we rode from Glen Innes to the Central Business District (CBD). It was a beautiful bike ride, but it turns out Auckland is a very hilly city, so my legs were quite sore!

Other news from this week:

I really love to bake, so I made chocolate chip cookies this week, too!
