Journal Entry:

Laa-gàwn, goodbye! It’s crazy to think that we have reached the end of our journey together. I have really enjoyed sharing my travels with you and I hope I was able to answer all your questions! With my last journal entry, I wanted to leave with you some lessons that the Thai people, and my time here so far, have taught me.

  1. Smile a little, or a lot. When I came to Thailand, I found so many differences that I felt a little overwhelmed, especially coming off of 30 hours of traveling. It is my first time being completely immersed in an Eastern culture, so there have been a couple of moments where I needed to readjust and redefine my expectations. The one thing that calms me and even carries me through these small moments of frustration, however, is receiving a smile. The land of a thousand smiles definitely lives up to its nickname.
  2. Adjust, readjust, and then readjust some more. Maybe if I were only a tourist in Thailand I would never notice the difference in the way Americans and the Thai conduct official matters. From scheduling to software systems and even to the way we communicate within the same language, there are some substantial differences between the two countries.
