Our News

What music did I listen to this week?:

This week, I listened to a playlist of songs from my favorite American artists, like Ed Sheeran and John Mayer, and songs from the Italian artists my Italian professor introduced me to like Ermal Meta. Around the city, especially in stores and restaurants, I usually hear American pop songs playing. The songs are sung in English, not Italian, which I find a little puzzling because I would expect the music to be in their native language.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

The director of my school took us to on a tour of the city and showed us the best restaraunts, historic sites and fun places to hang out, such as the only English-speaking movie theatre in case we get homesick! This movie theatre is located in the Piazza della Repubblica, a place where locals and tourists gather to listen to live music or ride on the carousel.

What did I read this week?:

This week, I read a book titled In Other Words by Jhumpa Lahiri. The book is written in Italian on one page with the English translation on the following page. In the book, she talks about her experiences as an American woman living and studying in Italy. It was nice to hear the story of someone who traveled to Italy to learn about Italian culture  like me.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

The other night, one of my English-speaking friends invited a bunch of us over for a game night. We made dinner together then played the board game Sequence.  We laughed and talked for hours. It was a fun night!
