When getting around Barranquilla, Uber is my go-to! Occassionally, I use buses as well.
In Colombia, buses are the main form of public transportation, but Uber is one of the safest options to travel around the city. If I am traveling farther distances to another city, especially to go to the beach, I usually take the bus. It costs about $7 USD to get from Barranquilla to Santa Marta, where there are beaches and a national park.
For long distances, the buses are really convenient! However, the buses take a while when going shorter distances, so Ubers and taxis are much more convenient.
Uber is tied to the social environment because Colombians undeniably have an entrepreneurial spirit. Sometimes, when I am using an Uber ride, the driver will give me his or her business card to arrange rides in the future. I usually contact drivers that I’ve met in this way if I need to arrange transportation to and from the airport or to go just outside the city.
