Life of a 6ème Student in Togo

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

I eat at my house. I prefer to eat beans .

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

At school I speak French and English. In my local laguage we say, "Èfɔ̃ nyuiea." (There is no literal translation for "How are you?" in Ewe this is more like, "How did you wake up? How was the morning?" and then later in the day they'll ask in the local language, "How was the work? How was the activities?" but this is as close as you can get.)

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

I, Elisha, as the teacher can answer this. We have a lot of girls with the name Abra in my class, and for boys French equivalent biblical names are common like David, Pierre or Joseph. But we also have a lot of really cool names like DieuDonne (GodGiven), Blessing (I think you get that one) and Akpe + local word. "Akpe" means "Thank you" in Ewe so there are names like, "Thank God" or "Thanks be to Him". If you live in a more Muslim region, I am sure the names can be a little different.

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

I prefer English.  (He also studies Chemistry, Natural Sciences, Math, French, Physical Education, History and Geography.)

What is your homework like?:

I, Elisha, can also answer this. The homework is often a sentence or a phrase or answering a couple of questions, we never make it very lengthy because the students have a lot of work to do when they get home.
