Spring Has Sprung

Their delicate white and pink petals against the dark grain of the tree's wood create a striking image that has captured people's attention for centuries. In Seoul, you will never find a single cherry blossom tree standing alone. They are usually planted in long lines along a walkway or throughout a park. During their peak bloom, they stand apart from all other trees and flowers. However, this doesn't last forever. After about two weeks, the flowers come apart petal by petal, and they soon look like a regular tree at the park.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

Cherry blossoms in peak bloom cast a romantic veil wherever they are. Perhaps this is partly due to the cultural significance and meaning of the famous flowers. In Korea, they represent purity and beauty. Perhaps this is also due to the arrival of new warm spring air. All of these environmental and cultural elements combine to create a truly beautiful natural phenomenon. People across South Korea flock to Seoul's Yeouido Park just to walk along the cherry blossom tree-lined pathways with friends and loved ones. It's a sad sight when the petals start falling, but some may argue that this is the most beautiful part of the cherry-blossom season. The delicate flowers swirl and dance through the air before finally reaching the ground. Did you know that there's even a popular saying that "If you catch a cherry blossom petal, you will find true love?"

Where does it live?:

Cherry blossoms are indigenous to many countries but thrive in temperate and subtropic regions. It's unclear where the trees originated from, but one theory is that they originally grew in the Himalayas or Eurasia before making their way to Japan.
