Traveler Bio

Здравейте! (Hello!)

My name is Elisabeth Bearden. I'm a 24-year-old from a small rural town outside of St. Louis, Missouri. Growing up, I always felt a sense of longing and a desire to see the world. As a child, I'd watch the Travel Channel and pretend I was a world explorer through the creeks in my own backyard.

After earning my first degree through the A+ Program, I took a gap semester and solo backpacked through Western Europe. That trip inspired me to study education—I wanted to help expand others' views of the world and different cultures. When I returned, I started my studies at the University of Missouri (M-I-Z!), where I learned about the Fulbright Program. I knew immediately it was my calling! The Fulbright Program is a prestigious exchange program that sends college graduates abroad to conduct research, teach English, and serve as cultural ambassadors. (This means we represent America abroad and share what living in the U.S is like!) I was fortunate enough to be awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant grant in Bulgaria.

I'm currently living in Samokov, Bulgaria, where I'll be teaching English, American culture, and history to 8th and 9th graders. In my free time, I love to color, travel, and try new foods! I'm thrilled to share my adventures with you and hear about your own journeys!

Want to learn how you could be a Fulbright Scholar like me? The Fulbright Program is the United States government's flagship international exchange program. Fulbrighters foster mutual understanding between the United States and partner nations, share knowledge across communities, and improve lives around the world. Learn more by clicking here!
