Our News

What type of money is used here?:

Bulgarians use the Lev, however, starting January 1st, we will switch to using the Euro. This has caused a lot of debate in our country. Many Bulgarians are not happy that we will be switching to the Euro, as they are afraid prices will skyrocket. In addition, the Lev (which means "lion," a national symbol) has existed in Bulgaria for over 100 years; its removal is seen as a surrender of national identity.

The bills are called 'levs' while their coins are called 'stotinkis.' I love that word!
