Traveler Bio

Hi! My name is Elianna, and I’m a college student at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, currently studying abroad in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. I’m studying Psychology and Spanish, and I’m especially interested in learning about people, communities, cultures, and the ways we grow and connect with one another.

Coming to Mérida has been an exciting opportunity to experience a new part of Mexico while continuing to practice my Spanish. During my time here, I have been exploring the city, learning about Yucatecan culture and history, trying traditional foods, visiting different places, and meeting new people. One of my favorite parts of studying abroad is discovering how everyday life can be different from what I am used to while also finding similarities between cultures.

I’m especially excited to learn more about the traditions of Yucatán, including its Maya heritage, music, food, celebrations, and beautiful communities. Being here has reminded me that traveling is not only about visiting new places—it is also about listening to people, asking questions, and understanding the stories behind a culture.

My journey to Mérida is also connected to my love for working with children and communities. Through my experiences in college, I have had opportunities to work with young people and create activities that support confidence, leadership, and personal growth. These experiences have taught me how much I enjoy connecting with others and learning from their experiences.

As I share my journey, I hope to show students that studying abroad can be both an educational and personal adventure. I want to share the things I discover, the questions I have, the places I visit, and even the things that surprise me along the way. I’m excited to take you along on my journey through Mérida and show you what I learn about Mexico, its people, its history, and its culture!
