Let's Meet a Local Child!

Introduction:

Hi, everyone! For this article, I decided to sit down and have a conversation with one of my young students, during which we got to talk about what life is like for someone growing up in Malta and how it may compare to life for an American child.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

My student shared that, for breakfast, he normally has a glass of fresh Maltese milk (Benna is the most popular brand throughout the country), some yogurt and fruit, or maybe cereal. In their packed lunch, he usually has some leftover homemade pizza, something Maltese families often make. Sometimes my student also gets a pastizzi (a traditional pastry with a savory filling) as a snack after school, and the cheese ones are his favorite! Lastly, for dinner with his family, my student often enjoys a pasta dish, usually accompanied by either seafood or rabbit.

What is your house like?:

This child lives in what the Maltese call a "house of character," which is a traditional Maltese townhouse. Most houses of character are long and narrow with three or four stories of original historical architecture and features. They are rustic-style houses that were created to accommodate large families.
