Dovídenia

From eating the food, following the traditions and even speaking a little bit of the language, I am excited to bring back all that I learned to the United States and share it with my family!

When moving to a country that you have never been to and know very little about, there are always challenges and risks that you must take. You either change your mentality or get swallowed up in fear. Luckily, I have been able to work on my skills and be courageous and open to new experiences. I have traveled to other countries before, but this was the first time I did it alone. There was no one else telling me what to do or where to go or helping me figure out transportation from the airport to the next city. I had to be brave enough to handle it all on my own. I stepped out of my comfort zone and met new people, a few of whom are like my second family now. While the process of gaining this experience was challenging, I have proven to myself that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. On the days that I feel lonely or homesick, I remember all of the great things that I have here and how none of this would be possible without the people around me who support me. However, my biggest takeaway from this journey has been to not be afraid to open yourself up to new possibilities and share who you are with the world.

Thank you for following along with my journey and allowing me to share my experiences with you all! I have enjoyed hearing your questions, your curiosity about Slovakia and hearing from some young people like you has made me feel more at home.
