Israel has three official languages: English, Arabic and, most common of all, Hebrew. Unlike English, Hebrew and Arabic are both written from right to left. That means every book in Hebrew and Arabic also goes from right to left!
The official currency of Israel is the New Israeli Shekel (sheh-kuhl), usually just called shekel for short, and shekalim for multiple shekels. While the exchange rate changes a lot, one shekel normally exchanges to around 33 cents, or 1/3 of a US dollar. If I can buy a coffee for $5.00 in Providence, how many shekels would it cost in Tel Aviv?
A regular bottle of water that I can put in my backpack costs four or five shekalim. How much is that in dollars?
Ooh, that's hard. It's not Israeli food, but I did have some delicious yellow curry at a local Thai restaurant. Lots of Thai people come to Israel to work, so Tel Aviv has lots of delicious Thai restaurants.
