The villagers generally are engaged in working for the tourists who visit the area in large numbers. Often, the villagers perform some acts for the tourists or sell handicraft items to them. The park also has a few wooden cabins for the tourists who want to spend some nights over here and the cabins also have a few eateries around them.
Since this area is very rocky, it is difficult to cultivate crops here. So, the local residents of this area have to depend on seeds and fruits which they can obtain from the forest and the fish which they can catch in the Merced River that flows through this region. This area is very remote and is not well-connected with cities and towns, so obtaining regular food items around this place can become very challenging at times.
The local residents i.e. the Native American people have been living here for thousands of years and are well-aware of the entire ecosystem of this place. They are very connected with nature and generally possess a deep understanding of the topography of the region. Nature in this place looks remote and untouched thereby making this place a living example of true harmony between humans and nature.
