Discovering Argentine Tango

I enjoyed my experiences so much that I now go to a tango lesson every Sunday with my host mom, who happens to be a great dancer. The interesting thing about these lessons is once they are over, more experienced dancers arrive and the place turns into what is called a milonga. Traditionally, a man asks a woman to dance and a woman looks into the eyes of a man to tell him she wants to dance. Words are not exchanged while dancing in a milango, but when a song ends there are brief periods for dancers to chat, get a drink, or switch dance partners.

Because I enjoyed my brief experiences with tango so much, I decided to take even more classes here in Buenos Aires, and I absolutely love it. There are eight basic steps, but the dance can get complicated quickly once you factor in the rhythm and multiple milongo steps.

I would suggest that you all watch a tango performance on YouTube!
