Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

The main language spoken here is Spanish. Specifically, Spaniards living in Madrid speak Castellano, a dialect of Spanish. Additionally, there are many foreigners living in Madrid (as it is a very diverse city), and I often hear English, French and German spoken on the metro and in the streets.

What type of money is used here?:

Spain uses the euro, the currency used by most countries in the European Union. Something interesting is that the 1 euro mark is a coin, which is different from the 1 dollar bill we use in the United States.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

Here a bottle of water costs 1 euro, or about $1.10 USD. Overall, the cost of living in Madrid is much more affordable compared to large cities in the United States.

What was the best meal this week?:

This week, my friend Silvia invited me to her home to have a traditional Spanish meal with her family. We ate clams out of shells and had lobster with rice. I love seafood, and I was happy to learn just how common seafood is in Madrid. It was incredible!

What music did I listen to this week?:

In Spain, the most common music comes from all Spanish-speaking countries, so I listened to a lot of reggaeton music by Latin American artists, such as Bad Bunny and J Balvin.
