Dining in Spain

Introduction:

Living in Madrid, there are countless dining options. Of course, I often eat traditional Spanish food when I am out with friends. However, Madrid is also a major global city, so you can find just about any type of food you are in the mood for, such as Chinese food, Mexican food, Japanese food and sushi, and even Domino's pizza. The main difference I have noticed is that Spaniards tend to eat their meals more slowly and almost NEVER on the go, as is the custom in the United States.

What food did I try?:

One of my favorite foods that I had this past week was huevos rotos (broken eggs). I had this dish with some Spanish friends when we were at a bar, and this is the classic example of tapas, the traditional Spanish eating style that involves sharing many small plates rather than each ordering a single entree. We all shared the delicious French fries covered in fried egg and traditional Spanish ham (a staple of Spanish cuisine).

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I absolutely love the Spanish custom of tapas because it basically boils down to sharing food with everyone that is at the table, and it creates a very warm, social environment.
