Getting Started
As I sip on some coffee in my apartment, I enjoy the fresh morning air and start to think about my calendar for the day. Today, I have one class in the morning, and no meetings! I pack up my backpack for the day, and head out of my apartment and walk a few blocks to get to my morning class.
My morning class is called "One Health," and it focuses on health-related topics in humans, animals and plants, and discusses how they are all interconnected! This class helps me to get more background knowledge that can help me with my research, specifically how wildfires impact not only plant life but human and animal ecosystems.
History of Wildfires and Pine Trees in Chile
Today, I learned more about the historical context of wildfires in Chile and how they relate to invasive species. For example, pine and eucalyptus trees were introduced to Chile for commercial use, but they burn much more easily than native trees. This means they can contribute to more severe wildfires.
After class, I have a quick lunch. Today, I grabbed a churrasco, which is a common Chilean sandwich with tomato, avocado, mayo, and meat. After lunch, I head to my office, where I can really get to work.
