This week I traveled about 85 kilometers, going back and forth to work and visiting the nearby city.
At this point, hundreds and hundreds of kilometers. From me flying from my home in Georgia to Miami for some pre-Guatemala training. Then from Miami to Guatemala. Plus, all the excursions to visit current volunteers in the field. I have traveled way too much to count, but to give a point of reference, from where I live to visit a town called Panajachel, which is by the lake, I need to travel 81 kilometers one way. Plus, to visit Antigua, which is a huge tourist spot and known for its colorful colonial buildings, I need to travel 34 kilometers one way from my site. How many kilometers have I travelled if I visited Panajachel two times and Antigua three times from my site?
Three times a week, I take a van to ride to a nearby aldea to get to the middle school I work at. Twice a week, I visit the library that I assist with, and this week I splurged one day and took a tuk-tuk (taxi). But you may be wondering what a tuk-tuk is? A tuk-tuk is a covered motorbike that can carry 3-4 people. I really enjoy them because they will also be decorated with popular pop culture and other decorations.
