The people of Costa Rica have been living alongside animals for a long time, so they know which animals must be avoided and which are not harmful. This knowledge is spread by locals who educate tourists to reduce the incidents of attacks. Similarly, locals know how to spot rip currents better than tourists. They know which beaches you can go swimming in and which ones you need to avoid. They make many signs to help tourists know, too!
In terms of farming, different parts of Costa Rica are known for different things. Cartago, a providence one hour from me, produces most of the vegetables for the whole country. This is due to its unique soil composition and cooler climate. Similarly, Alajuela in the Northeast region is known for their coffee. This is due to the very specific weather that area has, which is great for coffee. It's cooler and usually receives lots of rain during rainy season. However, if you go just 20 minutes southwest, you reach Grecia, a city known for its sugarcane. Here the climate is drier and hotter! People have adapted their crops to these unique climates.
