Hello class! I love food. As a result, one of my favorite parts about traveling is getting to try the local food. I have developed new favorite types of food from just trying everything new I see. I like to even eat fruits and vegetables that I have already tried in the past because, to my surprise, they usually taste different here (fresher and better).
I have tried many types of new food since I have been in Costa Rica. I have tried their most popular food, gallo pinto (a variation of rice and beans). I have also tried yuka (potato-like), maduro (plantains), chifrijo, Caribbean rice and beans (they use coocnut milk to make it!), empanadas, guava, orange watermelon, starfruit, sour mango, variations of oranges and much more.
As for drinks, I have tried cas (very popular fruit here), hiel (a Caribbean ginger soda), vanilla cream smoothie and blueberry tea, just to name a few. Costa Rica is known to have one of the best coffees in the world, but I did not like coffee based on my experience with drinking it in the United States. However, I did not let this get in the way of trying a cup of Costa Rican coffee. It turned out to be really good. Now I will have coffee with my breakfast sometimes!
