Hi, all! It was so brilliant to connect with you in the States and Canada and to see the enthusiasm and thoughtful questions that you had. I thought that I would take this opportunity to answer some of the questions that I did not get to answer in full on our calls over the course of the expedition.

How deep is the Weddell Sea? The Weddell Sea is between 300 meters (approx 950 feet) and 6,000 meters (just under 20,000 feet) deep, depending on where you are.

What is the food like? The food on board is really delicious. We stocked up on food on December 6th, and it has lasted us until the middle of February! We have some brilliant chefs who do not waste any food and make great dinners that incorporate leftovers from the meal the night before. The ship has special freezers that preserve the fruit and vegetables onboard, which means we get fruit and vegetables every day.

Can your Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) dig through ice? Our AUVs cannot dig through ice. However, they have obstacle avoidance software installed on them, so that do not knock into anything while they are underwater.
