Our first stop was a spot for bird watching where we saw many different species of hummingbirds, different species of tanagers, and a toucanet (a smaller version of a toucan). A hummingbird even ate from a tiny container on my hand. It was a great start to the tour!
We took a cable car across to a hiking trail and walked down to see a waterfall. Then we had to hike back up again! While we were waiting for the bus, we saw a pair of toucans high up in a tree.
We finished up the day with another chocolate tour and tasting, bought chocolates, had lunch, ate ice cream and rode home. The bus was the most comfortable ride of all.
Mindo is a magical place, and I can see why so many people visit. The mountains, landscape, animals, and people make it an incredible experience. It’s interesting to see how much the temperature and vegetation changes in such a short distance. Quito is higher up with less humidity. You cross into the region of Mindo, and you feel like you are entering a jungle of overgrown plants, trees, mountains and mist.
