Salam (Greetings)! My name is Claire, and I’m from Kinnelon, New Jersey. Growing up, I loved building things, and that eventually led me toward engineering and medicine. I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, where I studied biology and engineering. Biology helped me understand how living systems work, while engineering taught me how to solve problems by designing and testing new ideas. In the future, I hope to become a doctor who helps make healthcare more accessible and environmentally sustainable.
This year, I’m excited to travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I’ll be working in the ophthalmology department at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, where I’ll learn more about eye care, community health, and how hospitals can reduce energy use. One reason I wanted to live abroad is that I think some of the best learning happens when we experience communities different from our own. I’m excited to learn about what life is like for students in Malaysia.
Outside of school and research, I love playing tennis, running, trying new foods, and exploring new places. I also hope to try badminton, which is one of the most popular sports in Malaysia and should be a fun challenge after years of playing tennis.
