Children's Health in Mozambique

Introduction:

Many new volunteer organizations are make house calls and provide new vaccines and nutrition supplements to support children when they are sick, especially with malaria, which affects more youth than adults. Mozambique is working on creating more opportunities for children that support them in their daily lives, including youth programs, basketball courts, community sports and recreation centers.

What community need did I learn about?:

I learned that not many health programs or fun activities existed in the community for kids...  they need more!

Why does the community have this need?:

Over two-thirds of the population of Mozambique is under the age of 24 and at a higher risk of getting malaria and other diseases. These young people have few recreational activities available to them in the community.

Is this need being met? How?:

Organizations in my community such as CoVIDA, ANDA, and Save the Children are taking steps to visit children in their homes and do more health check-ups. Youth soccer and basketball teams have also been formed in the past year to give youth a chance to have fun and make friends!
