Week 3: Living Away From Home

Location:
Florence Italy
Journal Entry:

Ciao,

I am at about week three in my program. What's the most challenging part for me? I would have to say learning Italian. This is hard and easy at the same time. Why? This language is very similar to Spanish. So, I have to be really careful not to say any Spanish words! On the bright side, they are so similar that the locals understand you if you do speak Spanish. Do any of your family members speak another language? When you live in another country, you get to practice a different language every day. This means that every day, it becomes a little bit easier!

This weekend, I went to Florence and Pisa. These are very beautiful cities here in Italy. I was able to see some amazing sights like the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Florence Cathedral and some shopping districts. A shopping district is a location that has many stores. These places showed me how the locals dress, view art and more. Italians here dress nicer than what most people wear in the United States daily. Locals here normally wear button-down shirts and a nice fitted dress jacket for men. Women have more choices of what to wear, but they still dress nice.

Italians truly value how their buildings are created. As I traveled through Italy, I noticed the way that the buildings looked changed.
