Kids in Asturias

Introduction:

The interview below features the answers of a local grade six boy, Jorge and a grade three girl, Sofía as they explain their daily routines, favorite things and all about their school days.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

For breakfast, Jorge and Sofía typically have cereal with milk before heading to the bus stop for school. Breakfast in Spain is usually a smaller meal than in the United States. Lunch is the main meal of the day, and dinner is a smaller meal eaten late at night (around 9 p.m.) right before bedtime.

What is your house like?:

Located in a more remote part of Oviedo, their house is surrounded by more farm-style houses that have various animals. From Jorge and Sofía's house, anyone can catch the most beautiful sunsets as the colors settle into the mountainous landscape. The outside of the house has a small shelter for their two dogs and a cat. While most people in Oviedo live in apartments ("flats"), Jorge and Sofía have their own house that has a kitchen with many windows, a living room and a playroom on the first floor. The second floor has bedrooms and offices.

What chores do you have at home?:

At home, Jorge and Sofía are responsible for making their beds and cleaning their rooms daily. "I get to feed the dogs," says Jorge, while Sofía is in charge of feeding the cats.
