How many times in your life have you moved? Personally, coming out here is my third time moving into a new city, and I’m 20 years old. I first moved from Glendale, California to Las Vegas, Nevada when I was six. Then when I was 18, I moved from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, California to attend college. Most recently, I moved from Los Angeles to Pamplona for my exchange program. Moving and getting settled here in Spain isn’t easy, especially because of time and Spanish traditions.

First, the biggest challenge that I experienced while moving here was time. Between Pamplona and Los Angeles, there is a difference of nine hours! That means that if it is 9:00 p.m. here, then it is 12:00 p.m. in Los Angeles. Even after a week of being here, I find it difficult to sleep at night because my body’s internal clock has been used to running on Los Angeles time. On the topic of time, Spaniards eat at different times than people in America. Here, it is common to have a light breakfast around 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., a heavy lunch from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and then dinner late at night around 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.. The change in time has been difficult for me, but I hope that as time passes, I will get used to it!
