Hello, Mr. Tannenbaum's class!
My name is Cassandra, and 12 years ago, I was sitting in your exact place in Mr. Tannenbaum's classroom! It was in this class that I started to dream about living all around the world, and this fall I had the opportunity to do just that! I just moved to Kiel, which is a relatively small city right on the water in Northern Germany. It is known as the "Sailing City" because of all the sailboats here, and it hosts Europe's largest sailing festival every summer! It is also a really rainy city, which also makes it very cozy... I have been drinking a lot of tea every morning! I have also been getting to know the city as I go on runs or bike rides with friends. I keep finding new roads I have not yet gone down!
I just graduated from college and have moved here to do a Fulbright Research scholarship, which means that I get to spend most of my day behind a microscope. I am in training to become a paleoceanographer. This is a big word, but it just says that I am a scientist who studies the history of the oceans! Being a paleoceanographer means that I get to go on boats to collect mud from the bottom of the ocean and then look for tiny shells of organisms known as foraminifera. We then use these shells to tell us about how the world used to look!
