Mayad nga adlaw sa tanan - A beautiful day to everyone! My name is Bri (short for Brianna) and I am a 26 year old U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer. I grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland, but I have spent the past 7 years of my life living in Florida where I studied Marine Biology and then worked as an environmental educator.
Since college, I knew I wanted to be a Peace Corps Volunteer, specifically in the Philippines because my Lola (grandmother) was from Bagac, Bataan. I am excited to combine my passion for the environment with my curiosity to connect with my family's culture. This experience includes living with a host family, studying and practicing the language of Tagalog and my local language of Buruanganon, eating lots of delicious and unique food, and celebrating special Filipino events.
But being a Peace Corps Volunteer isn't just fun and no work! As a volunteer in Coastal Resource Management, I work with the local government unit to protect important resources like seagrass, mangroves, and coral reefs. This includes assisting in writing laws and policies, educating the community, conducting assessments in the field, and sharing all of my work with people back in the U.S. like you :)
Peace Corps Volunteers like me live and work side by side with community members around the world, collaborating on locally prioritized projects, building relationships, exchanging cultures and knowledge, and helping transform lives for generations. Learn more by clicking here.
