Meet Besim: A Life of Travel and Learning

Some of my favorite places I’ve been are the following:

  • Turkey, because I was surprised by how welcoming the people were and how amazing the food was;
  • Ireland, because the people are so friendly and always willing to help; and
  • Spain, because life feels relaxed, the food is delicious and dinner happens late, around 9:00 p.m.
What do you do for work?:

After graduating from college, I worked in a corporate job for seven years. I decided I wanted to follow a new path and became a professor at Rochester Institute of Technology’s Croatian campus in 2002. I love teaching and working with students in classes about hospitality, hotels and business!

Is there anything else you would like to say to students in the United States?:

Whatever you choose to do, give it your best and do it the right way. And if you ever get the chance to study abroad, go for it. Traveling and experiencing new places can really open your mind and help you see the world in a completely new way.
