Interestingly enough, I don't usually eat many of Italy's most famous foods, like pasta, cold meats or pizza, but I do drink a lot of coffee. And while Italy has a reputation that these foods are found on every block and are all delicious, it's my goal to find out if that's true. Just like in New York City, recommendations are essential, so I try not to pick the first thing I see. But my busy week meant I selected every place I ate at random, and I've definitely had some different experiences!
My first day in Italy, I was able to try a focaccia sandwich with prosciutto (cured meat), soft cheese and lettuce. It was quite good, but soon after that I had an even better sandwich with smoked cheese, olive oil and grilled vegetables on fresh bread. So amazing! I have also had pizza a few times and while sometimes the sauce quantity is similar to the U.S., it's often much less, and it's very good with different toppings. This week, I'm investigating pasta restaurants because I have only had some pasta so far and it was just okay. I love tagliatelle bolognese (pasta with meat sauce), so when I ordered it from a viral restaurant my friends chose, I had high expectations. Of course it was still delicious, I just know I can do better.
