In my Codes Culturels class, I learned about Les Vendanges, which is the annual grape harvest that happens in September and October. As Bordeaux is known for its wine, this tradition is especially meaningful and wine is a huge part of the region's identity. The harvest takes place once the grapes grown in les vignes (vineyards) are ready to be picked after months of special care. The process of collecting the grapes is récolté à la main (picked by hand).
The tradition of Les Vendanges (The Grape Harvest) is both a period of intense work and a time of celebration! It usually takes place between early September and mid-October. However, the exact dates depend on the climate, grape variety, and vineyard location. For example, in Bordeaux, the harvest season can last several weeks due to the variety of different grapes. These grapes can be Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, etc., and they can all ripen at slightly different times. These are also known as wines due to their grape type!
