Pfefferkuchen-Soße: a tradition from Schlesien

Leftovers on Christmas Day or Boxing Day are absolutely acceptable though. And there are always leftovers!

The Pfefferkuchen-Soße is a sauce made from gingerbread soaked in malt beer. Malt beer is sweet and unfermented and has nothing to do with classic German beer. There are many details about what else goes into the sauce and each family with roots in Schlesien seems to have their own special recipe. But the way my mom does it is the absolute best!
