Xin chào! Hi there! My name is Andrew, and for the next year, I’ll be living in a city called Can Tho (pronounced “kuhn tuh”) in southern Vietnam. My job here is to teach English classes for local college students at Can Tho University. I have lots of fun in class because the students are excited to learn English and tell me about their lives in Vietnam!

When I’m not teaching, my days are filled with riding motorcycles, slurping noodles and doing my best to learn about Vietnamese language and culture. Making friends here is easy because people are happy to show me around town and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee together.

But before we dive further into Vietnam, I’ll introduce myself. I’m 22 years old and I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. I have an older sister named Claire, and she’s my best friend! I graduated in May from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where I majored in Print and Digital Journalism. I love to tell stories, so I’m really excited to share some with you from my travels.

When I was a kid, I went to a Spanish immersion elementary school. That means the teachers in most of my classes, from science to history, spoke to us in Spanish.
