For my commute, I take the local bus, which stops just a block from my apartment - super convenient. The ride to campus is only about 15 minutes, and it drops me off right at the entrance. The first two hours of my workday are spent planning lessons for the following week, and if I have extra time, I draft ideas for my English club sessions.
Next up, I teach a beginner English class. This week, we're working on the verb "to be" and practicing introductions with basic information. This semester, I'm focusing more on improving their speaking skills since that's where I've noticed they struggle the most. It can be tough to get them to talk, but patience and encouragement always help them open up.
I get a one-hour lunch break, and this semester, I'm trying to bring my packed meals more often. I meal prep at the start of the week so I don't have to cook every day, especially after the gym (breakfast is the only exception!). If I don't have anything prepped, I go to a nearby spot that serves corrientazo - affordable three-course meals with a rotating menu, so there's always something new to try. No matter what I order, I always get their fruit bowl as a starter and a coffee after my main course.
After lunch, I have two more back-to-back classes. First is English II, where we're reviewing the simple past tense of the verb "to be." I like incorporating material from previous lessons to keep things fresh in their minds—lots of revision and games to make it stick! After that, I teach English I, covering the same material as the earlier group.
I work alongside two full-time English professors, and the dynamic is great.
